Committed to a cleaner and more sustainable future, Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation (Keppel T&T) takes a long-term approach in designing its data centre facilities so that it balances eco-conservation with meeting customers' service level requirements.
Its efforts received industry recognition recently at Singapore's Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Awards Night, where one of the seven Green Mark Gold awards that Keppel bagged went out to Keppel Datahub, a data centre jointly owned by Keppel T&T and Keppel Land.
Keppel Datahub is one of the few data centres in Singapore to choose the dynamic rotary UPS (uninterruptible power supply) system which, although has higher upfront costs than the conventional static UPS system, offers higher energy savings that can offset the heavier upfront costs over the long term.
Mr Pang Hee Hon, CEO of Keppel T&T which owns and manages Keppel Datahub, shared, "Keppel T&T not only adopts a holistic approach towards the ‘greening' of our data centres through the careful design of our facilities, but we also engage our stakeholders constantly - employees, clients , contractors - in implementing best operating practices."
This is why on top of the 2010 BCA Green Mark award, Keppel Datahub has also successfully achieved the new Singapore Standard for Green Data Centres SS564:2010 in March 2011.
