Some 50 Keppel Telecommunications and Transportation (Keppel T&T) volunteers in Singapore and China bonded with disadvantaged children over fun activities that also taught the importance of caring for the environment.
The events, part of Keppel T&T's KNOW (Keppel Nurtures On Wheels) community outreach efforts, took place on 24 August 2013 at Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home in Singapore and Nanhai Welfare Centre in Foshan, China. The Keppelites were from Keppel T&T's China subsidiary Keppel Logistics Foshan (KLF).
Recycling materials such as paper and cardboard boxes from Keppel T&T and KLF offices, the children constructed an impressive array of crafts ranging from photo frames to models of trucks. Keppelites and its customers also donated close to 1,000 storybooks for the mobile libraries.
In Singapore, the rainy weather failed to put a damper on the Keppelites' enthusiasm. Mr Chng Hak Kiat, GM of Operations at Keppel Data Centres, summed up the effort. He said, "The highlight was getting to interact with the kids, who really warmed up to us."
