Keppel Land and Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation (Keppel T&T) were winners of the Sustainable Business Award (Large Enterprise) at the Singapore Sustainability Awards, with Keppel Land receiving Top Honours for being best in the category.
The awards, organised by Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and held on 31 October 2013 at Resorts World Sentosa, honoured companies for their sustainable business practices, pro-environment operations and performance management systems, corporate responsibility initiatives, innovation and green technology implementation. Winners will represent Singapore in the international arena and be showcased at the China ASEAN Exposition 2014.
Keppel T&T has been a pioneer in sustainability efforts for close to two decades.
Elaborating on the company's sustainable business model, Mr Pang Hee Hon, CEO of Keppel T&T shared, "We embrace sustainability as one of our key guiding principles, both at the strategic and operational levels, as well as in caring for the society, our environment and our people.
"The benefits of operating a sustainable business are tangible. These include savings from enhancing the energy efficiency of our operations and reducing wastage of resources. We also benefit from an enhanced reputation, which in turn helps us to attract and retain talent."
Mr Pang added that the key to achieving a sustainable business is having top management's commitment to sustainability goals, a holistic approach that integrates sustainability action plans with business and operational plans, as well as clear communication on performance throughout the organisation and with the public.
Keppel T&T's wholly-owned subsidiary, Keppel Logistics, has been ISO14001 certified since 2002, while its data centre, Keppel Datahub, was among the first data centres to receive the SS564: Singapore Standard for Green Data Centres.
Following efforts to promote environmental conservation, Keppel T&T achieved a 23% reduction in total waste generated, equivalent to 143 tonnes, which resulted in energy savings of over 6,861 GJ last year.
Keppel T&T has published annual sustainability reports since 2011. The reports were developed in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework and fulfil the requirements of Application Level B.
